Praying the Rosary Together: Pope Leo’s Invitation and a Guide for October

In Liturgical Calendar, Prayer and Scripture

During the month of October, Pope Leo warmly invites everyone to pray the rosary each day. “I invite everyone to pray the rosary every day during the coming month—for peace—personally, with your families and in your communities,” he said, reminding us that October is traditionally dedicated to this prayer, with the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary on October 7.

By taking a different mystery each day, you and your young people can enjoy a month of meaningful reflection. With the Luminous Mysteries included, there are now twenty mysteries to guide your meditation. This practice can be used at home, in classrooms, or anywhere hearts seek peace.

Praying the Rosary

  1. In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
  2. Announce the mystery of the day.
  3. Pray the Our Father.
  4. Ask a student to read the passage from Scripture that is the root of the mystery.
  5. Take a few moments in silence and ask the students to pray for the truths contained in the mystery to be a part of their lives.
  6. Pray the Hail Mary ten times.
  7. Conclude with the prayer: “Father, may we say ‘yes’ to your will for our lives as Mary, Queen of the Rosary, said ‘yes’ to your will for her. We ask this through Christ the Lord. Amen.”
