Lent…but for Teens
Joel 2:12–18 serves as the Scripture focus of this activity. After reading the passage, your students have the chance to explore how Lent fits into their everyday lives. Starting with abstaining from a time- or money-consuming activity, students calculate their savings and donate that amount to a charity, journaling reflections throughout.
Teaching Lent to Teens
This lesson has everything you need to teach right away:
- Scripture passages with unique Catholic features from The Catholic Youth Bible
- Leader guide activity
- Go Forth: Special challenge page
To foster discussion and thought, it also features conversation starters like:
- How does Jesus echo the prophets’ message to care for those who are oppressed and suffering?
- How does fasting challenge us to detach ourselves from possessions?
A Catholic Bible for Teens
Catholic teens deepen their faith by experiencing Scripture in their daily lives. This Lent activity helps them connect with valuable Lenten lessons while containing relevant, real-world examples. More than just a Bible devotion for lent, it’s a chance to live out the three pillars.
About the The Catholic Youth Bible®
Twenty years ago, we discovered that Catholic teens didn’t know how to navigate the Bible. They weren’t familiar with its important people and events, and they did not know how to discover it’s spiritual truths. So in 1999, we created The Catholic Youth Bible, then followed that with Breakthrough! The Bible for Young Catholics and The Catholic Children’s Bible. Together, these Bibles answer the need to make the Bible approachable for every young person, no matter their age.
