Discover FAQs

Yes, families can purchase and complete the grade-level appropriate folders at home, along with the digital lessons. Instructors can then monitor student progress online and subsequently convene for in-person the Gathered Family Sessions at the parish.

Select the grade level that best aligns with the majority of your class. For instance, if you have a mix of 3rd and 4th graders with more 3rd graders, opt for the 3rd-grade materials. You can also preview the 4th-grade Catechist Guide in our Teacher Resources to see if incorporating some 4th-grade lessons throughout the year is feasible.

Yes, purchasing the complete set means you’re getting the entire program for less than the cost of the Bible alone. Furthermore, for every 20 student kits ordered, you’ll receive a complimentary Catechist Guide. You can also download all of our guides for free from the Teacher Resources tab on our website.

Discover! kits are available in two options: a complete folder kit containing the lessons, liturgical lessons, and a backpack, offered either with or without a Bible. While every kit purchase includes access to the digital online lessons and the Gathered Family Sessions, these supplementary components are exclusively available with the purchase of the print Discover! kit.

The best approach depends on the structure of your summer or VBS program. Typically, we recommend using the scope and sequence to select or combine lessons that align with the age group and timeframe of your course. This might involve teaching multiple lessons concurrently or integrating content across different grade levels. Another option is to utilize the suggested readings in the back of the Catholic Children’s Bible as a guide for your program, supplementing with Discover! lessons or Catholic Children’s Bible activities where relevant, using those readings as an outline.

The self-guided digital lessons are designed for children to complete independently. However, we strongly encourage parents to actively participate in their child’s faith formation. To support this, we’ve included a Home Guide and Parent Page for each lesson. We recommend that parents use these resources after their child completes the online portion to review the material, ensure understanding, and provide family support. These resources are readily available at no extra cost in the Teacher Resource section of our website.

Although this question is already addressed in Discover!, it’s frequently asked. Our Teacher Resource Center has Spanish Family pages available.

While we don’t offer in-person training, we ensure catechists and parents have comprehensive support through the Teacher Resource Center on our website. There, you’ll find various training documents and videos covering teaching methods, course topics, and detailed, minute-by-minute plans for lessons, prayers, and activities. Additionally, we provide thorough instructions for catechists on accessing and navigating the online platform and effectively communicating with parents of participating children.

Gathered Family Session FAQs

The Discover! Gathered Family Sessions are a series of ten gatherings held from September through June, designed to unite families in reflection on both the liturgical calendar and the changing natural seasons. Over time, the program will expand to include three years of unique sessions, allowing for content rotation and fresh engagement across multiple years.

No, parishes have the flexibility to use as many or as few sessions as best suit their specific needs and circumstances.

No, the Gathered Family Sessions are a standalone resource that complements the Discover! program but does not duplicate or replace its graded-level catechesis. However, since these sessions are primarily based on the liturgical seasons, a parish may choose to substitute its graded-level lessons on the liturgical seasons with the Gathered Family Sessions.

No, families participate together as a unit. There are no age or family-size restrictions—any family members are welcome to join. Each participant contributes based on their age and ability, fostering collaboration and shared learning within the family group.

Each session is centered on a Bible story from The Catholic Children’s Bible. Guided by the session leader, families engage with Scripture through listening, reading, and reflection in a simple yet meaningful way that can be continued at home.

Many Catholic families are seeking ways to integrate faith into their daily lives beyond Sunday Mass. In today’s fast-paced world, where family time is often scarce, these sessions provide a valuable opportunity for families to gather at the parish, supported by leaders, catechists, and fellow parishioners, to engage in faith-centered activities.
